Orthopaedic rehabilitation

Orthopaedic and bone and joint rehabilitation concerns patients suffering from either degenerative or inflammatory diseases of the bones and/or joints. It is also used after bone fractures with or without a prosthesis.

In the field of orthopaedic rehabilitation, the aim is to find the optimal interaction of the muscles, bones, tendons and joints in order to compensate for functional deficits and relieve pain.

Types of rehabilitation

Rehabilitation Hip Prosthesis
Rehabilitation after a knee prosthesis
Rehabilitation back pain

Most common conditions treated in orthopaedic rehabilitation

  • Prosthetic surgery (hip, knee and shoulder)
  • Trauma surgery (hip, pelvis and ankle fractures)
  • Patients with multiple trauma
  • Postoperative consequences of herniated discs
  • After effects of arthrodesis of the lumbar spine
  • Occurrence of problems after surgery of the lumbar canal
  • Non-operated problems, for example, chronic low back pain
  • Inflammatory rheumatism, such as rheumatoid arthritis or fibromyalgia.

Treatments

The rehabilitation doctor works very closely with orthopaedic surgeons and rheumatologists. A multidisciplinary team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, sports instructors, speech therapists, neuropsychologists, dieticians and specialist nurses complete the medical group. Their individually tailored services aim to help patients achieve greater autonomy and independence and provide them with the means to adapt to a disability under the best possible conditions.

Depending on their personal case, the patient is cared for as an inpatient or outpatient.

During rehabilitation, various exercises are fulfilled to manage daily activities (e.g., washing, dressing, preparing meals and eating, etc.). The aim of these exercises is to improve motor skills (strength, mobility, dexterity). Another topic is advice on correct posture, especially for patients with spinal pain, PTH and inflammatory rheumatism.

The treatments are carried out in groups or as individual sessions.
